I love UMPC, now tell us why you do too!

Last week I let you know that we'd be giving away some cool free stuff to all you origamiproject.com fans out there and now it's time to deliver.

Announcing the . . .

I Love UMPC Contest

So, wipe off that drool and grab a keyboard – we’ve got a really cool contest for you! With a little work and creativity, you could be one of five winners to get your very own Samsung Q1 and Slingbox device. How awesome is that? Ten runners-up will get an authentic origamiproject.com t-shirt. Ok, I admit it's less exciting but hey at least you know you were close to winning the big prize.

We’ve read through the forums and are thrilled at all the great suggestions you’ve given us for how you think a UMPC would be useful to you. Now’s your chance to write up your suggestions in more detail AND get a chance to win this great combo courtesy of Samsung and Sling Media. Click on I Love UMPC Contest for all the details.

Good luck, we can't wait to read the entries!

Maybe the consolation prize wouldn’t be so bad if you flew everyone who entered out to Redmond and invited us out for a good game of golf! As much as I like golf being one of the first people in the US to get a UMPC is much cooler.

The last post by Dustin said "We also will be running some promotions soon".  What other promotions / giveaways are coming?  Are there other manufacturers involved?

andrewk: funny you say that about a trip to Seattle. I actually thought about that as a prize and my wife that it was crazy. I think her exact words were "why would someone want to come hang out with you guys for the day" :) Last time I take her contest advice!

Dustin, I have a better idea -- I think there is going to be a big super bowl party in the secret media center test room (which has one of the best televisions on the planet) (if you still don't know what I am talking about then you should watch this channel nine video http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=180410 ) Imagine how many people would write essays for invitations to the party! Know any one on the Media Center Team (and if you do call them up and ask them: ask them if like Tablet Guy if there is a Media Center Guy!)

I have no idea if this would be too much but do you think we could have some kind of confermation e-mail stating that you recieved our entries, it would be much appreciated! Also this contest was a wonderfull idea because I know some of the people that may win have no other way of affording a UMPC!

Yeah, that probably would have been a good idea Maxwelllove. I'll try to make sure we do that next go around.

Andrewk: I guess this is the week of the avatar makeovers ;) Good idea about the media center room, not sure I'll be able to look into this right away but who knows.

Dustin-

This may be a bit of a stretch but if you hear me out Microsoft may seriously benefit from it; I am also probably jumping the gun a bit -- I'll get to my point -- If I am one of the five winners of the UMPC contest I think it would be really cool to do an MSNBC interview with you and show off all the cool features of the UMPC. If you were willing to do it, it probably wouldn't be hard to pull off considering that MSNBC is a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC. I think it would be really cool for me to show other people my age what the UMPC is like and why they should get one! I (quite frankly) think that a high school or collage student would be more likely to listen to someone who is about their age [and a student] talk about why they should buy a product than to some one who isn't taking notes and going to classes every day. I think that it would be a great idea to help boost the sales of the UMPC and get the product out there to young people. [Plus I think I could be do for my fifteen minutes of fame and I am about to turn 16 on April 27, 2006 and an awesome new Samsung gadget would be a really cool birthday gift!]

So think about it [And if you like the idea don't let your wife say [Dustin, you are going to let a how many year old go on air with you to promote the UMPC!]]

So you are saying that there will be more contests, Dustin?

Also, Andrew K., my birthday is on May 7th and I will be turning 15, I agree with you that this would make a good birthday gift. Good idea about the interview but I doubt that that will happen.

Hey Dustin. thanks for posting this info over here, i would have never found it and probably missed this oppurtunity. Also thanks to Darren for linking here on his blog.

so, i have this really cool idea for my essay and im gonna start puting it all out soon, after im done revising it in my head.

theres no way i can probably even afford a UMPC and i bet there are a lot of people waiting to get their hands on this as well. i know the contest is only limited to US residents so that probably narrows done some competition (about 6.3 billion). estimated how many ppl are actually trying out for this. is there a rough estimate u can tell? thanks. and from the looks of the ppl here (especially andrewk ;) looks like theres some pretty determined ppl out there)

cheers, statix.

My technical background is in application development, web development, database design and to a lesser extent networking. I've been managing teams at Microsoft for over 8 years now in various capacities. I love software, technology, marketing and business so I tend to dabble in a lot of areas. In my spare time I hang out with my awesome wife and two young boys. When I'm not golfing that is :)
